i) What do you see as the biggest issue for Functional
Testing Tools on Agile projects?
The biggest issue of functional testing tools is that they support old-fashioned testing approach where the values are to :
- use tests for finding defects
- test within dedicated testing campaigns
- specialize testing jobs
Modern functional test automation tools should support modern testing values needed for agile development:
- use tests to specify what the software should do in a test-first fashion
- continuously test the software
- share the test responsibility, and thus authoring, usage, etc
ii) What do you hope to contribute? I will bring my experience of automating functional tests both in agile and non-agile projects. I also got to see and use many test automation tools, from those used by the developers to those intended to the users. I experienced the advantages and drawbacks of many of those.
iii) What do you hope to get? I’d like to take some ideas for the workshop on Test-Driven Requirements that I lead in the conference the following day. I also hope to bring back home concrete points to implement within our agile onshore and offshore development projects. Last, I’d like to share the findings of this workshop with the testing community in Valtech Paris, so as to keep the discussions rolling with them, and get them into the AA-FT initiative.
